Brief Overview of the Book of Revelation:
Chapter 1: 1-17
In 95 AD the Apostle John was on the Isle of Patmos (v.9); John heard & saw the Lord Jesus standing behind him (v.10-17); John was given instruct- ions by the Lord to "write" (v.19) the things which John was experiencing then in the Spirit (with the appearance of Jesus) & the ensuing vision.
Chapters 2 & 3
7 churches in Asia Minor which had been birthed & existed in John's own time are described & exhorted to become on fire for Christ & to endure.
Chapters 4 & 5 [ a heavenly vision shows the period of time from the cross (5:6) up until the beginning of the final 7 year period (5:9) ]
John is caught up into heaven (4:1, 2) & sees the incredible presence of God (4:2-11); then, John also sees the "lamb" (Chapt 5:6) who "came" (5:7) & was the only living one able to "open the book & its 7 seals" (5:5).
Chapters 6:1 through 12:17 [ 1st 3 1/2 years of the 7 year Tribulation ]
Chapters 13:1 through 18:24 [ the Great tribulation, final 3 1/2 years ]
Antichrist, with full support from his Euro-kingdom (13:1-14), launches the most horrible nightmare on earth in world history & turns the earth into his own slaughter-house for this last 3 1/2 year period.
Chapters 19:1-10
A picture of what occurs in heaven (v.1) just before the return of Christ to earth.
Chapters 19:11 through Chapter 20:3 [ Return of Jesus ]
The divine physical return of Jesus (19:11) to earth on the final day of the Great tribulation period.
Chapter 20:4-10 [ 1000 years on earth with the Lord Jesus Christ ]
Shows Christ Jesus re-establishing the order of life-on-earth for the next 1000 years (v.5, 6) under the reign of Jesus, the King of kings. The devil is bound for these 1000 years (Chapt.20:2).
Chapter 20:11-15 [ Great White Throne judgement ]
At the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth, then the ultimate & final judgement of God takes place.
Chapter 21 [ a New Heaven, New Earth & the New Jerusalem ]
Immediatley after the Great White throne judgement, then a brand new Heaven, earth & new Jerusalem, created from in the beginning, come down out of heaven (21:1-4, 10) for all of God's people to finally dwell in for eternity (v.3, 7).
Chapter 22 [ e t e r n i t y ]
The awesome & eternal presence of God is shown on His throne (v.1) with His "bond-servants" in God's presence (v.3) throughout eternity.
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are in it; for the time is near.' [Rev.1:3]
